ZZ Hoss
More visitors, friends of our from Wiltshire, sisters Sharon and Tamsin. Came to see the horses and have a ride on ZZ. An amazing horse, it was windy and starting to rain but he was, as ever, the perfect horse, giving them both a lovely gentle ride.
Then a few weeks before, Debbie Roberts who has Chianti x Muffin stallion came for a visit. ZZ loves being ridden!!
We collected ZZ back from Touchwood Stud a few weeks ago. Resident trainer, Mike, had ridden him every day in English tack and was dying to have a go western, so we took the tack along. Mike rode him first and told us he'd been hacking out a lot with him as well as schooling in the arena. Said he wished the dressage horses he rode had such balance and rein back as ZZ Hoss! Owner of Touchwood Stud, Gemma, also had a try western. They found it very addictive, as the rest of us who ride our quarter horses have found out!
This incredible horse adapted from English to western in the blink of an eye and so did Mike and Gemma!
Docs Stony Bars was taken to the stud and is now scanned in foal for a June 2010 foal to ZZ. Lots of interest and enquiries already for this one!

March 2009 - We moved the sheep about last weekend with ZZ - what an amazing horse, just takes everything in his stride.
This horse is so cool, he was lying down in his field shelter the other day so we had a cuddle. He quite enjoyed being sat on whilst he was still lying down too. We'll put this into practice moving and on his feet one of these day, he's such a sweet horse!
Last weekend Bev and her daughter Megan came to see the new foals. They have a 3 year old by Muffin out of Chianti who is just about to be started. Bev and Megan both rode ZZ the Wonder Hoss....he is quite the most amazing stallion.....

2002 Quarter Horse Stallion
We took ZZ to an arena just down the road a few weeks ago to ride him in something other than mud! Word got out and we ended up with quite an audience. ZZ was very lively on the lunge to say the least and this caused more interest as this mad woman was actually going to get on this stallion??
We went back last weekend as they wanted us to do a western demo. Carol put a sheet up asking if anyone were interested and quickly took it down as the numbers went to over two dozen in the first day!
We took ZZ and he was completely amazing. An absolute superstar! I did a bit of a talk for a half an hour for the first group, children from about 6 to 14 years old and the yard owner and some other parents/grandparents. Then we tacked up "The Hoss" and I did a basic thing on how to get on and off, steer, walk and jog around the cones we'd set up. We wanted them to feel the difference in a western trained horse. They all lined up for a go on this amazing stallion who is worth his weight in diamonds!
He moved very slowly and gently for the little kids then the more experienced ones, he moved a bit quicker. They were all beaming and apart from being blue with cold, they really enjoyed it.
Haydn and Carol, the owner and manager of Tregoyd Mountain Riders, put on a lovely, very welcome curry for lunch and a to die for chocolate torte!
Then it was the adults in the afternoon, about 14 of them, I lost count! Again ZZ was just amazing, patient and calm, just incredible. All had a turn and found it very different but were amazed at how light and balanced he was.
This is the most amazing horse I've ever come across. Patient, honest, kind, calm, athletic... I could go on but can't find words good enough to describe this top stallion, who has never done anything like this before and he gave 200%.
Thanks so much to Carol for suggesting this weekend and Haydn for supplying the surface, lunch, stabling for ZZ half time and everyone for the interest in this superb way of riding. Carol the lady in charge of the arena and livery yard had a ride western then we had several kids ride him. Only a bit of video this time of a couple of them but lots of photos coming later. He was incredible. The kids weaved him around the cones, backed him and jogged him and he was the perfect gentleman, putting up with them scrambling on an off him, like a riding for the disabled horse! He never turned a hair or gave anyone a moment's worry. Temperament or what!!!
Then my brother in law tacked him up English and rode him in that style for ZZ's first time English. He just turned into an English riding horse, just like that! This horse is just fantastic! More video soon, we've been told we're wanted back at the arena for more ! His fans demand it!

New video - second ride on this phenomenal stallion! Awesome balance, smooth straight action, kind and full of presence. Becky did warn me that he talks all the time and he does. you can actually have a conversation with this horse, I change his rugs in the morning to go out and say "ready then?" and he mumbles back to me. I have never, ever come across a horse with such a personality and sense of humour.
