Our Own Horses in Action!

4.4.10 - Another afternoon at Tregoyd, Holly becoming a firm favourite with everyone as she has the most superbly smooth paces and we can put anyone on her - she is the perfect horse for anyone, never gives anyone a moment's worry, even when the shooting starts nearby.  Needless to say, her next foal is creating a lot of interest.

Pink as usual was the second horse and all had a lovely ride on her, Anita perfecting lead changes.

Ian had a wonderful first ride on this lovely mare, loads of pics below.

21.3.10 - We took Holly along to Tregoyd last week. Her first ride for over 3 years as she's been having foals. She was 200% perfect and a few different people rode her for a lesson, responsive, calm, gentle, willing and sooooo smooth!!!

Anita on Pink doing fantastic! Pink's second ride since she came over a couple of years ago.  Anita has Mel's 2009 filly who is kept at Tregoyd on livery and is doing great, a very sweet filly.  Click the link below to see the fun we had on Sunday. I actually managed to ride Chianti before Caroline came and I was oisted off!!! LOL!!!

The lovely Northern Chianti, one of our best broodmares had a year off foaling this year so we took her to Tregoyd to join in the western lessons with Heidi.  She hadn't been ridden for about 5 years and she just dropped straight back into it, calm, sweet, willing and one of the most honest horses you'll ever come across. Her paces are smooth and she is light and responsive and seemed to love it as much as the people riding her!

Had a fantastic day last weekend at Shane Borland's reining clinic. Everybody enjoyed themselves, had a lot of fun, learned loads and had a superb lunch!   Heidi was wonderful and as a trained cutter/cowhorse, this was quite a different experience for her and we found her to be quite rusty (like her owner!) yet very willing.  Having only ridden out since we imported her 3 years ago, it was a great exercise for us both and great to see a professional rider on her.

Everybody made us feel very welcome and we can't wait for the next clinic in May!

Shane and Vix are great people and absolutely love their horses - Shane did say at one point he'd stay until midnight if we wanted...real dedication and passion for his sport. Nice one Shane!

Apologies for the music....that'll teach me to mess about with settings I don't understand!

On our way to the beach the whole area was flooded! Our brave horses never faultered, they just waded in. On the way back Stony decided to canter through it soaking poor Jackie!

Graham was doing his Blair Witch Project lookalike at the beginning...without the screaming...that was Jackie and I trying to stop!

Sunday 23rd November Jackie, Graham and I went to Kenfig beach near Port Talbot. Second ride for these two on a beach, it was very windy, raining on and off and the sea was amazing!  Our first gallop lasted about 3 miles before we got to slow them, they were both really up for it.  This video is about an hour or so after we set off. Graham caught us up and took this video.

Jackie Michaels, 2-minds Horse/House/whatever needs sitting, sitter came out for a ride with me last weekend. It was, as ever, raining and blowing a gale but calmed down a bit when we got out.  Heidi and Stony absolutely love going out together and we had a fantastic  2 hour ride, Jackie quite at home on Stony, who she knew really well from when she has house sat for us a few times when we've been away and she is the best there is.

Graham had his first ride for years at Christmas last year.  Stony and Heidi have had the summer off and it was their first ride since June.  Both horses behaved impeccably, kept it at a walk and trot as none of us were fit.

Graham had only ridden a couple of times before pony trekking and a couple of times on Chianti, and he did absolutely brilliant!  Wish I'd been that confident with that limited amount of experience.

Graham, or rather "Stony" taking the lead

Pics will be added to this page as we go out and ride in different areas.

Bev and myself went out with Stony and Heidi last year.  We got a bit lost, well, not really true, we could see where we should have been but couldn't get there due to padlocked gates on the hill.

We ended up having a 4 hour ride, I left Bev with the 2 horses while I went ahead a few yards to see if it was boggy.  It wasn't.  Then Stony obliged by finding a peat bog - up to her belly in peat bog!!  Didn't panic, Bev didn't panic, just got themselves out of it.

Had to go back much the same way but not before we had a breathtaking view of the Beacons and were almost as high as the highest peak.  It was awesome, the horses were awesome too!

They coped with bogs, ditches, very rough ground, walking up a road which was large stones and more like a stream with all the rain we'd had, very steep ascent and descents - one point we were leading down as it was so steep and slippery I was virtually going down on my bum leading Heidi, who thought "that's a good idea" and locked all 4 feet and went into a bambi-on-ice type slide, on her bum straight towards me and slid for about 15 feet.  Was she trying to break the longest reining horse slide record??  Would have, but Heidi, you're not supposed to slide with all 4 feet!!

She came to a stop with such a look on her face - "what now?"   "Follow Bev and Stony - to the right".

Phew!!  Made it back to the track and even had enough energy to move a cow about on the way back!

Did an organised fun ride 6th May - gosh these girls are fit!

Stony and Jayne spotted some riders in the distance.

Heidi

Just like a western movie - galloping into the sunset

These are superb trail horses - we crossed rivers, past JCBs logging, stepping over and around fallen trees in our path, through a puddle on the track which turned out to be up to their bellies!  We were almost swimming!  Corrugated sheets flapping and banging in the fence, silage bags flapping on fences, sheep darting out from behind gorse bushes, people parked on the common thinking it funny to blow their horns - these two mares are just faultless.

Jayne and I had a bit of a gallop up to the point below...I said "I'll go in front and we'll see how we get on"

Heidi and I were going at a pretty fast gallop when I slowed a fraction and looked to see if Jayne was behind me....she was calling out "coming up on the right" and went past me like a tornado jet!!  She flew past and up to the top and literally left us standing!  They absolutely loved it and so did we!

We had the most fantastic medium canter along a straight bit of common on the way back and it was just amazing, cantering side by side, in control (for once!!!) balanced and rhythmic for about a mile.  Great, great horses....

Bev with Stony just as we were setting off

The mist came down which was a shame as we were hoping to get some amazing pics with the views

Just got back to the trailer.
